A vacuum pump may refer to a special high powered pump that is used in many applications, including automotive, to create vacuums for testing purposes or drying. A vacuum pump may be a mechanical device that is used to clean an air conditioning system in a car. This will rid it of moisture, air, and contaminants. A vacuum pump may also refer to a component in some brake systems that actuates the brakes using a vacuum system instead of a hydraulic system. All vacuum pumps create vacuums using mechanical or electronic means. They are used in many applications in vehicles and can cause problems if they are not in working order.
