Crankshaft Position Sensors, Camshaft Position Sensors
In internal combustion engines, the crankshaft sensor monitors the position and speed of the crankshaft. Engine control units use this information to adjust ignition timing and engine function. This sensor is extremely important in the function of the vehicle. If it is not working, there is a good chance that the vehicle will not start at all, and if it does, it may stop working after a short time. This leaves the driver stranded on the road. It is integral to the timing of the firing of the spark plugs. Without the proper firing, the pistons don’t work in tandem and the engine will not run. Before the sensor fails it may show symptoms like timing problems, starting problems, engine cut off after a few minutes of driving, engine backfire, or irregular rpm function. It is a problem that should be handled right away as the complete failure of the sensor likely means the engine will not start at all.
